They say that if you don't know where you've come from, you won't know where you're going. In honor of the Taiwan Wild Bird Federation's 35th anniversary, we take a look at Taiwan's journey from relative ornithological obscurity to its current leadership in bird conservation and citizen science, together with the role that the TWBF and its partners have played in this years-long process of development.

In early December 2023, TWBF Director of International Affairs Scott Pursner traveled to Czechia to for exchanges and meetings with the Czech Society for Ornithology. Mr Pursner was invited by CSO Director Zdeněk Vermouzek who hoped that the visit could continue the relationship-building between the two organizations which had been growing over the last few years.

From November 13-16, 2023, a group of Taiwanese NGOs visited Thailand where they learned about the salt pan wetland conservation work and related issues taking place there, particularly through the efforts of the Bird Conservation Society of Thailand. Organized by the Bird Conservation Society of Thailand (BCST) and the Taiwan Wild Bird Federation (TWBF), the visit built on an online session held between the organizations in September 2023.

The Taiwan Wild Bird Federation (TWBF) and the alliance of conservation groups from Taiwan focusing on salt pan wetland conservation visited the Bird Conservation Society of Thailand (BCST) for three days from 14-16 November 2023. They came to experience and learn about key sites for shorebird conservation in privately-owned protected areas in Thailand.

From November 1-6, 2023, Mr. Ian Davies, project coordinator for eBird, visited Taiwan for the first time. The trip was organized by the Taiwan Wild Bird Federation and Taiwan Biodiversity Research Institute to hold meetings about the use of eBird in Taiwan, and help Mr. Davies to meet key stakeholders in the Taiwanese birding community.
